February 8, 2010: Milone & MacBroom, Inc. would like to extend its sympathies to the victims, their families and all those affected by the terrible tragedy that has occurred at the Kleen Energy Site. We are proud of our long standing association with this project, its developers, and its EPC contractor. We remain committed to the success of this project and stand ready to support the project team in every way possible in the coming months.
Milone & MacBroom, Inc.'s engineers are playing a pivotal role in assisting the construction of this 620 MW gas fired power plant. As part of the project team since the conceptual design phase, our hydrogeologists and engineers have played in a role in every phase of the water supply development - from MODFLOW modeling to Siting Council hearings to DEP and ACOE permitting to design of all elements of the water supply infrastructure and now in the construction phase. The project required the following design effort:
- Approximately 6,800 feet of water main
- Water system modeling and hydraulic transient analysis
- Ranney collector wells, associated pump stations and structures
- Booster pump station
- Industrial water treatment plant for iron and manganese removal
- Treated water storage facilities, including two 2.5 million gallon concrete tanks and one 0.5 million gallon tank.
Currently, two engineers are on-site full time to oversee construction of these facilities. Their efforts include coordination with the EPC contractor (O&G Industries) and subconsultants representing every trade group needed to complete this construction.
Construction of the water supply system must be completed before start-up and testing of the power generation facility and maintaining project schedule has been imperative. Milone & MacBroom, Inc. has met the demanding schedule and expect the water supply system to be operation in the first quarter 2010. The power plant should start commercial operation by fourth quarter 2010.
