Rockwell Park Restoration

Milone & MacBroom, Inc.'s landscape architecture group was retained to develop plans for a major renovation in the flagship facility in the City of Bristol's park system.  Originally constructed in the early 1900's this 104 acre park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  In its prime, the park was one of the state's premier recreational destinations, but had fallen into disrepair.  The firm worked with the city to develop a master plan for improvements to restore the park, once again allowing it to serve a vital role in providing recreational amenities to residents.   Improvements included:

  • Restoration of a former swimming area as an open water body,
  • Restoration of a degraded wetland system,
  • A new skate park,
  • Replacement of playground equipment,
  • Reconstruction of the vehicular and pedestrian circulation system; and
  • Ancillary safety and aesthetic treatments.

Construction of the playground and skate park was completed in 2008.  Construction of a pond and wetland system will be completed in 2010.
